Day 11 - Santo Domingo to Belorado - 22.7km

So another standard Josh leaving time of being out for 6. So today was a consistant day of fairly straight fairly flat but hot it was very hot.

There were only a few cafes today and lots of wide open trail. Mainly walked on my own today. Made good progress. Tho I think my headphone adapter is broke so no music now until I can find a replacement or usb-c headphones.

Walked past the Albergue me and dad stayed at with a pool, to find something closer to town. Found the apparently number 1 voted one and chanced my luck without a booking and got in. Had to wait for it to open and even managed to queue jump Cali & Emily. It was 13 euro's and it also had a pool. So was nice to have a swim before the shower today.

Once again tho the storms came in the afternoon. Thankfully we are eating in the restaurant in the albergue tonight and looks like a solid menu a bit more classy than the standard perigrino menu.

Day 10 - Azofra to Santo Domingo de la Calzada - 16.5km

So after a lot of looking at maps and apps and stages and the mid stages just don't seem to make it viable to tweak to extend stages right now to catch up. The middle stages have weird jumps or places with beds but no bars or cafes so I may need to wait to stage my attack after burgos.

So even tho today will be another short one it should be 16.5k. so started out as usual for 6 and was pretty standard stuff but they had had the water sprayers on and they had waterlogged the way and made a mud fest of red mud. So I had to help navigating a few pilgrims through as I had boots on and one girl had sandels and socks on. Unfortunately I was to busy navigating to take pics but if I find someone else's pics il update here.

Pics from the day before the rest kicks in:

So today we went to to Santo Domingo de la Calzada which is a town that is famous for a story of the rooster and the hen. So here goes:

A German couple and their young son go on a pilgrimage to Compostela. Upon arriving in Santo Domingo, they stay at an inn. The doughter of the innkeeper falls in love with the bay, but since he did not love her back, she decides to take revenge by hiding a silver cup in the boy's luggage. When he leaves the city, the daughter reports the theft. When he was checked, the cup was found among his belongings and as a result, he is accused of theft and sentenced to hang. His parents continued the pilgrimage and when they returned, they realize that their son is still alive, hanging from the gallows, because Saint Dominic is holding him up from below. They go tell the city's chief magistrate about what had happened. However, being sceptical, he says that the bay is as alive as the roasted hen and rooster that he was about to eat at that moment. Immediately, the birds recover their feathers and come back to life, bearing witness to the astonishing miracle." This is where the saying comes from that says: "Santo Domingo de la Calzada, where the hen sang after being roasted"

So now that story is over I got to the town walked into the perigrino information office and was given a map of the city and told I need the visit the cathedral to learn about the lesson of the "Mysterious Cock"........ I had to hold myself back a lot trying to leave respectfully.

So I got booked in the albergue, got the chores done. Chilled for a bit of the afternoon then the madness begun, we got culture with Claus, Emily, Cali and I.

First up was the clock tower and clock museum:
So you see that picture of a really dark cloud that was a thunderstorm so after climbing 127 stone steps I had run back down and get to the albergue to get my washing in before in rained too much.  I got back back to discover fellow pilgrims already moved all our clothes undercover. So headed back to the tower only to get caught in a doorway waiting for the rain to stop.

then we headed over to the Monastery:
This place was full of diarama's:
and weirdly loads of puzzles mounted on the wall as art, it was a bit bizzare.
but thankfully it was now time for the main event - The Main Cathedral:
And now for the moment you have all been waiting for in the Church itself the "Mysterious Cock":
The evening has been double entendres filled, finished off with a perigrino menu with a Spag Bol Starter always my favourite and a cheese cake desert.  Was a good day but defo did a lot today. Cali and Emily are staying in the Paradore and barely mentioned it all night, but il take solace from getting a bottom bunk.
