Welcome to my Adventure blog. I am not pretending to be much or a wordsmith and my grammar is sketchy and best but this will hopefully give you a look into my Camino’s/Adventures. Its worth noting I will be writing this not just for friends and family but also for the random world of the Internet. But first About me:
My name is Josh Capaldi. I am 39 living in Tonypandy, South Wales at the age of 18 I moved to Aberdeen in 2002 to Aberdeen to go to Uni where I studied Computer Networking at The Robert Gordon University. It’s fair to say I partied my way through Uni though making lots of good friends on the way. I was also Union & Student President of the University for 2 years something I am very proud of. I graduated in Winter 2009. And after a few years being a bouncer and doing security at events, working in mobile phone shops and an Account Manager position at an IT company I managed to get my Career on track working for a Global Oil Company working in IT. This Blog really kicks off with my First Camino in 2013 where I wanted to take time out and work some things through and find myself.
After the life changing experience of 2013 in 2014 I decided to go back but this time to return to my true love of cycling. I know the experience will be very different but also adding another element in my Dad coming to join me. This will probably be the most time we have spent together in about 10 years. After not finding many cycling blogs decided to document it here.
So my 2014 Camino was great but I defiantly lost my Perigrino feeling and I blame the cycling. So in 2015 it’s back to walking. I enjoyed the French route but fancied a new experience. So I started in Porto on the Camino Portugues. Once I arrived in Santiago I was joined by my Girlfriend Lauren and then we got the bus to Ferrol where we walked the Camino Ingles back to Santiago. We had hoped to also walk out to Finisterra but my injuries on the Portugese Camino due to cobbles and a fairly rough experience on the Ingles due to a lack of beds and facilities meant we cut the plans short.
Life is the ultimate Camino and it takes many twists and turns. As I stated in my blog in 2015 I was made redundant but luckily got a Job back doing helpdesk for the Uni I went to at the time still in Aberdeen. My relationship with Lauren survived the Camino and moving in together however a year later it run it’s course and the lack of jobs in Aberdeen due to the oil and gas downturn led me to move back home to Caerphilly, South Wales. I rekindled my relationship with my Dad and Motorbikes leading to me building body fat levels up again. Progressed my IT career tho too and also started dating a lovely lady from my past before I moved to Aberdeen. So here we find ourselves in 2019 and it felt time to add another Camino to the List. This time it’s Primitivo Time, the Original Way. Once again dragging the GF along too but hopefully this Camino will not disappoint as much as the Ingles did.
In 2019 Karen and I broke up shortly after the Primitivo, work got silly busy and then COVID hit. I had many huge grand plans but alas they had to wait.....So I turned my focus to levelling up my personal life. Covid made it way more easier to focus on health/weight although that's always a battle and it allowed me to save a deposit and bought a house in Tonypandy, so I now have some lovely lakes to walk around and live in the beautiful Valleys. Then finally did my Car License so I can get around so much easier for training walks. Due to covid and work projects I have been carrying 2 weeks holiday since 2020 so this year (2023) and now coming up to the 10 year anniversary of my initial Camino I am heading back to do the Frances but with a full 6 weeks. So can take my time and soak it up and hopefully walk out to Finisterra and Muxia which I have wanted to do but did not get the tick it off.
