Today’s blog doesn’t start today it starts last night after signing off my blog my too good to be true 10 euro room got two new pals. 2 women who had met each other on Camino and walked together. With the lack of beds in town they were happy to share the double bed in my room. This would probably be something quite strange to most people but on the Camino this is really no big deal. Regardless of if you in a small room or a huge room with bunk beds mixed rooms is pretty standard stuff. Rachael is Spanish and Agra I think it’s spelt is from Lithuania.
They spoke pretty good English and we had a pleasant dinner together. All was well until about 30 mins after I fell asleep I was woken by a duet of snoring. Camino life at its finest. We all agreed to get up at half 5 to hit the Camino for 6.
All started well but it was clear my walking was faster than their pace so I said goodbye. We are all aiming for the same place today but who knows if our paths will cross again.
I walk on through a nice forest pathway and lots and lots of cobbles. I am going to kick this off by saying cobbles suck balls and are they main reason I’m getting blisters due to the small uneven heights means your foot often comes down at an angle but in general they suck. My blister on the bottom of my foot was hurting but was ok and I made very good time.
It was 13k before the first open cafe but had two pan an chockates and a cafe con leache. I had soon smashed 20k out and it was only 11 am. All good but the next few k’s is where it started to go wrong my feet now hurting from both heals and the never ending Cobbled roads. I stop and to no surprise I have two blisters but these are not normal surface blisters but very deep under the skin in my heal. I tried to thread them but with little success so decided to crack on all be it slowly. According to the guide books today should have been a 27k day but after 33k and a real long hard painful slog one one phrase came to mind. No pain, no glory. It’s a Camino motto and I made it into to the city and eventually found an albergue my first of the trip. It’s next to a wee cafe and is a donation based one but I still out in 5 euro it’s quite small 3 small bunk rooms a little kitchen and washing area showers and toilets. But all you need. So I got my Camino housekeeping sorted e.g. Shower, washing clothes and checking blisters. And managed to thread the needles but defo in pain which is not good with 33k on the guide for tomorrow but we shall see what tomorrow brings. There were heaps of Spanish ppl in the the albergue but my room was empty but all the beds have stuff on it so I will maybe meet my bunk mates later.
