Day 8 – Caldas de Reis to Padron - 19k

Last night in Caldas de Reis has a festival in town, we checked the signs and it seemed to say there was a play so we thought nothing of it.  All smug about our private room we decided at 10 to head to bed all was well and then at half 10 the music started.  We assumed as a warm up for the play but oh no we were wrong it was a full on music concert.  Closing the window was not an option due to the temperature so ear plugs were the only option.  They finally finished playing around half 2 after murdering a number of songs.  It was pub singing at its finest.

We got up as planned at 7.  A little tired and bleary eyes from the music but keen to get on.  It was dark when we woke as usual and we were making great time.  After 5k stopping for toast and coffee in a small cafe but thanks to them being busy it took a long time to get everything sorted and paid to move on.  We were soon back on the path through the countryside and Forrest walks they were ok but hardly spectacular enough to take pictures of.  We focus on watching the km’s on the markers slowly crawl down and are talking about getting up early on the last day to make it to Santiago for the mass.

We soon arrived in Padron at the back of 11 having only 18/19km to do today we had arrived at the albergue just over an hour before it opens.  Usual Camino rules tho you leave your bag on the wall to take your place in the queue.  We are now only 22/23km from Santiago.

Padron is famous for its delicacy of peppers (pics to follow).  We got in the albergue and got the normal chores done and after a shower went into town for supplies and grub.  We get to a bar and finally for the first time on this Camino the pilgrim menu is more of what I’m used to having spag Bol for starters, then pork loin and chips for main with Santiago cake for desert all with a beer for 8 euro.  I also ordered the famous peppers to go with it and it was delicious.  The plan today is just chill and snooze and get ready for he final day and the end to my solo adventure.  Tomorrow night Lauren flies in to Santiago and the adventure begins again with a whole new route.  Let’s hope my feet are up to the task.
