Day 24 Palas Del Rei to Arzua

This morning we kicked off at half 4 think the worst of our feet me fuelled by a can of monster and some chocolate biscuits! Clearly the breakfast of champions! We headed out and the worst was realised our feet and legs were still shit and slow! There were lots of long up and downs and we walked for close to 3 hours and only did 7k. Then I started getting a feeling that my legs wanted to get a shift on but with my feet still feeling like I’m stepping on glass I kept slow. After all this is our easy 28k day before the final big 40k tomorrow to Santiago.

We decided although normally we do 10k before stops we needed a break and soon found a cafe open. Rosario’s tendinitis was also not playing ball so him with an ice pack a coffee and a pan au chocolate and myself with a coffee and toast we chatted while munching. As we were talking I noticed normally I would take my trainers off when we stopped but for some reason today I didn’t want to.

We started off again and that’s when it happened a regular holy Jebus miracle. As I was walking I couldn’t feel my feet, it was literally like the pain had just stopped, it was like getting a foot transplant. I tested this for a while trying to make my feet hurt at all. So I went for a normal heal strike walk, I haven’t had a smooth heal strike walk since I started the camino something has always been broken so I have been limping or changed my walk in some way. With my new legs on I started walking faster and holy shit it was perfect no issues at all.

Further to the holy Jebus miracle was that Rosario was keeping up with me. His tablets must have kicked in and boom we started averaging 5k an hour from the 3.2k from earlier and we started eating up the kilometres. Both of us now overtaking tourists everywhere. Both now with huge smiles on our faces we both put our music on and set a fast pace with the plan being finished early to rest before tomorrow!

Now roughly 40k left to do tomorrow and if the feet hold out for tomorrow we will have it done no problem! Thanks for all the supportive messages after yesterday’s negativity, the difference a day makes!

Only took a few pics today as most of the walking was next to roads and I was focusing on getting it done and relaxing!
