So I’m actually going to start with telling you a but about last night in the village where we were staying. They were having a fiesta so they the local women could meet men. Apparently a man was judged on the amount of cows he has not looks! ( I will await Calum’s joke/comment on Facebook).
So this was a full on stage and live bands going on until 3 am. So I was prepared with my ear plugs but I had nothing to worry about my feet decided this was the night they would fight back. They pulsed pain my way for many hours. And so I maybe got 3-4 hours sleep. The alarm went off at 4 and as we left there were still people partying in the streets. We walked a little bit until we noticed a bar with music on we went in to discover it full of drink Spanish people but we went in and got a coffee to start us off anyway. Rosario is still very much suffering and as such his pace is very slow! Due to my many blisters my pace was also down to a crawl we were averaging 3.5k an hour which when we normally average between 5 and 6 is slow over the day. Francesca was in normal form and she left us in the dust as she blazed a trail not to be seen again.
Today’s target should have been 34k but as usual turned out to be 36k. The biggest problem today was pace and pain no matter what I tried I couldn’t shake the pain or very slow pace.
I stopped and redid my tape on my feet this seem to give me a little relief but I think due to me being tired my feet were tired too.
I didn’t take many pics today and if I’m honest we had a shit day walking wise and tomorrow could potentially be just as shit. We only have 28k roughly to go tomorrow to line up the 40k offensive on Santiago to finish. Thankfully now after getting to a super market and although it will make my bag 2kg heavier I have 4 cans of monster. It’s hard to get on the camino so stocking up now. The rocket fuel should hopefully help me make progress and rest up more ready for the final assault.
My hotel in Santiago is already booked and I will walk into Santiago on Wednesday even if its with bleeding nubs I used to call feet!
Today the camino was full of Camino tourists!! Honestly when they swan past using every easy option like getting taxis past hard days or getting their bag transported to their albergue so that they can walk without bags I just feel like using my sticks to trip them up. They can easily be discovered by the lack of dust on their shoes and those guys do not get Buen Camino’s when I walk past as they have not earned the right.
As Francesca made good time she actually went into the next town so it’s once again just Rosario and I. We are both a bit beaten up but hopefully will catch a break tomorrow and finish early to rest up and after that it will be a battle of the pain killers until I reach Santiago!
Any encouragement for myself and Rosario would be greatly received! We are pretty much running on stubbornness and the will to finish!
