Day 6 Torres Del Rio to Navarrete

So today started as normal at 6 am breakfast was part of the bed, dinner and breakfast deal for 20 euro’s tho we asked if they started promptly at 6 as we would want to get away early and as expected nothing happened until half 6. So it was 7 am before we got close so ready then GIGi and the usual Italian bunch were faffing around so I just started walking!

I love walking first thing in the morning it’s very cool and I normally make great progress! Then the sun comes up and for an hour or two the temperatures stay very mild and thesis my favourite time! After this it gets hot and I turn into a sweaty slow mess and that’s when the feet start screaming at me!

The plan today was a smaller 21.5k to Logrono and stay there! I was making good progress stopping when I wanted no waiting for people it was nice.

I made solid progress into Viana a large town where I spotted an adventure clothing store and managed to get some new ferrules for my walking sticks mine had worn through after day two and the clicking clacking was doing my tits in and was crap on concrete due to the metal not gripping! I then with my new rubber tips powered on to Logrono!

Logrono is a huge city and honestly was a bit too much, I went from a single dusty track to being in the middle of a city everyone staring at me as they went about their working day. I did look for an albergue and it was still closed as I had arrived before 12 most albergue’s open between 1 and 2. I walked on into a park following the camino along where I started talking to a Spanish Pilgrim we didn’t even exchange names but her English was very good she had done an Erasmus in London and we out the world to rights for an hour or so we both were under the assumption the next town was only a few k’s not that either of us had checked we walked on chatting.

Before long we were coming up on Navarrete we walked up and had lunch in a bar and she decided to walk on I after figuring out we had done over 30k booked myself in the albergue!

I then had a wander around the town and its very lovely with a huge church that I stuck my head in and I didn’t burst into flames or anything! I then walked to the top of the hill the town is on and the views are amazing as I type this I’m about to head up to see the sunset! On my own and feeling fine about it! Honestly feeling relaxed and happy!

The plan for tomorrow is I’m going to get up as early as I can and go hit up the camino early and see if I can make it the 39k to my next target! Only time and my feet will tell!
