So today the plan was simple go have breakfast, drop off the luggage at the pilgrim office as we don’t need to carry our cycling stuff with us and it’s only 2 euro per day to store a bag. Then head to get the bus to Fisterra(Spanish)/Finisterra(English) which traditionally is another camino to the coast which was historically known as the end of the world.
We went to me favourite place in Santiago for breakfast and had bacon and eggs the same as I had last year. It’s soo good but the real reason is the have the world’s greatest cheesecake and no I’m not joking this stuff is the best ever no question hands down crawl through a desert and drag your balls over broken glass just for a lick of the plate it used to be on good! Dad very much agreed.
We managed to locate our bus and we all know how 3 hour buses go so I will skip that jazz but we got it from the bus station and it was 23 euro return.
We after looking at the beautiful seaside route in the final town on the strip and bay. Ok so it’s a wee port and very much perigrino central lots of albergue’s, cafe’s and bars. We locate our hotel only across the road from the bus stop and get checked in. We booked a seaside view and we were not disappointed out balcony looks east over the bay and we plan to get up for sunset tomorrow and then go back to bed.
After a wander around town we prep for the real reason were here and that’s the 3/4k walk to the lighthouse. This is the spiritual end of the Finisterra Camino and as you have no further to walk often the end to all pilgrims. Here it is traditional that pilgrims burn their boots or items of clothing they no longer require and watch the sunset.
So after we got some supplies from the supermarket for a wee picnic and a few beers we started our stroll up the hill reaching there around 9ish with sunset due at 10:20/30ish.
We soon found where pilgrims burn items but no fires were currently lot and there were some smoke but after trying for half an hour could no make flames my intention was to burn my shoes my Salomon’s saved last years camino and I have worn them ever since and although I was worried they wouldn’t make it to this camino after some heal repairs they indeed did and I cycled this entire second pilgrimage with them but knew their end was due. So with no fire I did the next best thing and tied them together and hooked them over a statue knowing that the next time a huge pilgrim fire is burning they will totally throw them on and complete their destiny and I like the thought of my perigrino brothers finishing the job. We say and watched the sun slowly drop while eating and drinking and well il let the pictures tell the story I took heaps. But it was incredibly beautiful and not a moment il forget soon.
I think this will be my last blog of the trip as the next two days are just chilling and will probably make boring reading.
Pics from today and yes I know I went nuts:
