So inevitably last nights fiesta lead to some disturbed sleep and the streets being full of load drunken spaniards. Even after our breakfast at half 7am while we were pedalling through the streets it was a game of dodge the pisshead. We soon made good time and the last day in the Meseta was finally over and also our nice fairly flat roads are now also gone what faces is going forward is a lot of ups and downs and two large mountains. Not to mention the last 100k is a pain in the arse and was horrible as a walker so hoping as a cyclist we can speed through it. The last 100k from Sarria is the minimum required to be walked to pick up the certificate and for Christians have your sins forgiven, so it’s rammed full of locals or people doing the bare minimum. We will stick to the roads in the last 100k for sure.
Compromise has also been reached on the final plans so we will only cycle to Santiago which we have to reach by next Saturday as that’s when the bike hire runs out. We don’t fly home until the Tuesday so will then get the bus to Finestre stay a night and then head back to Santiago.
So after 7 days of pedalling how are we? Well I’m actually fine, by this time last year I was popping Ibuprofen like it was skittles but I’m yet to take any tablets this trip. I have some expected quad ache and some butt ache but very manageable. Even my back and neck ache has been good. So how is dad? Well he is finding the butt soreness to be more of an issue but apart from that is all good. He already has a gel saddle cover where as I’m still in the normal bike saddle. I think some of his troubles are friction based my underarm our boxers have been doing the business for me with no problems but dads using normal cotton pants which iv explained are shit for sports so some shopping for sports undergarments is in order.
Leon is a cracking city as I found out last year and we are staying in a hotel I stayed in on my second day called hotel Quindos as I had a great stay here before. They actually have some Picaso art here on the walls. So we have cycled for 7 days now and have around 320km left so we have cycled 380km so far and tomorrow is Sunday and we all know on the 7th day even god rests so it’s time for a rest day il be honest it has more to do with the moto GP being on and dad moaning about wanting a big screen for it lol. So we are booked into our hotel for two nights and we are hoping a day of rest may help dad’s hoop!
We will then have 6 days to finish although I think 5 should have it done.
So as tomorrow is Sunday and the already work shy Spanish don’t open things on Sundays we headed to the cathedral to get it done and out the way and plan to just chill tomorrow.
