Day 8 – Leon, Rest & food on the Camino.

So today the plan is to do very little and just rest the legs and dads arse.

After watching Italy beat Wales and having no requirement for alarms we got up around 10 am and went for breakfast got some supplies and watched the Moto GP and the snoozed the day away in the hotel. Tomorrow we start back on the road and start the final assault on the last 320km.

As today was a fairly boring day I have decided to talk about food on the camino a lot of my pals will tell you it’s a favourite subject of mine.

Breakfast:
Typically coffee and toast or pastries such as croissant or sponge cake. In some of the nicer hotels they also offer serial or cold meats and cheese. This can range from 3 euro to 7 depending on the range but out of town in a services we had a huge pan au chocolat and coffee for 2.10

Lunch:
Typically could be a Bocadillo which is a simple but of a baguette with salami, Palma ham, cheese or chorizo. Normally 3-4 euro. Tortilla is also a big favourite which is essentially Think Spanish omelette almost like a pie which normally has potatoes in it but can have ham and cheese and is also around 3-4 euro. You can also get hamburgers or paella or pizza or pasta for around 4-6 euro.

Dinner/supper:
Menu del dia/menu de perigrino normally a 3 course meal; starters of spaghetti bol, mixed salad, soup, or local delicacies like white bean and chorizo. Main course of beef steak, pork steak, squid, gammon steak, paella, chicken or eggs and ham are typical normally served with chips. Deserts of Ice cream, yogurt, cake or flan are typical but coffee can be taken as a desert. All served with bread and a bottle of water or wine sometimes beer. All for typically 8 to 15 euros but typically 10 euro. It’s cracking value and what we have had every night.

We are really not sure what a vegetarian or someone with dietary requirements would do if there spanish isn’t up to much. Obviously this can be done more cheaply if you buy ingredients from the super market but there is still very good value eating out.

Drinks:
Water is 1.5L bottles ranges from 50c in supermarkets to 2 euro in bars. Cans of coke/Aquarius also range about the same. Beer is sdm cheap the big bottles of San Miguel are 1 euro and a small beer can start from 1.5 euros to our most expensive at 2.8 but in general 2 euro is the normal and comes with pinchos/tapas normally local delicacies but generally very tasty or just a simple wee plate of crisps.

The good has been really nice and good value every time we go to a supermarket we walk out with a full bag and it was less than 5 euro and feel like we just robed them!

Food Porn ahoy:
