So the catch up post for the last couple of days. First of all Lauren made it to Santiago with very little problems but she soon discovered I needed a rest before we started. I already had a hotel in Santiago so this was not a problem. The plan was to get up the next day and get the bus out to Ferrol. We got up about 9 ish and went out to my favorite breakfast place where I introduced her to Aquarius lemon and the local cheesecake. After a whistle stop tour of the Cathedral and Santiago we headed over to the bus station in plenary of time for the bus. We were waiting for the bus but couldn’t see our bus at all lots of busses for other places but none for Ferrol. The time bus was supposed to turn up had passed but no bus. We went back upstairs and they said it had showed up but we didn’t see anything so now we had to wait until 6pm for the next bus. So after hiding in a cafe for a few hours this time the bus did show up.
A little over an hour of very green looking countryside we arrived in Ferrol and made our way to the hotel I booked for my recovery. 4 star goodness was exactly what I needed for 2 nights. Ferrol seems to be a quite a modest tendy modern city with serious industrial docks and lots of trendy wine bars to go with it. After dropping out stuff off and a shower we headed out to find somewhere to eat. Always tricky on a Sunday night. We soon found the camino and the starting place so after grub called it for the night.
After getting up at a tourist time of 9 am we went out for breakfast and to go pick up supplies and to start part way of the camino after getting stamps and guides. Our hotel is about 2-3k outside of the long straight main road that joins the main shopping street. So the plan was to go to the start and get our starting stamp and is the camino until it passes near our hotel then after a chilled out day today we can start on the camino from hotel back to the bit we left it. This will also take 3k ish out of the day’s walk.
Oh and Ferrol has a religious festival where the all wear red hoods and carry crosses and religious effigies down the road in huge parades but we can’t help think there is a striking resemblance to other hooded activities. The pics speak for themselves.
