Day 3 – Bodenaya – Campiello 27.7 km (felt longer)

Last night’s stay in the albergue in Bodenaya was the best albergue I have ever stayed in. Was super chilled out and homely, they gave you juice to chill before you did your paperwork. Then told us to make ourselves at home and there would be a meal at 8 and breakfast in the morning. At the evening meal we as a group decide what time to wake up and music would wake us up in the morning. Better still there was a magic basket and they would clean and dry our clothes. All donative too. It was a really nice albergue walls decorated with keepsakes and random flags sent to them by pilgrims. The evening meal was delicious a pasta salad with a vinaigrette dressing with bread and humous followed by garlic soup with apparently had fermented egg and bread in it, sounds weird but it was very tasty with red wine but I stuck to the water. At dinner we decided to wake at half 6. But we knew with breakfast we would be starting quite late today. We left to a misty start with Dominique who walked the first 3 days with her sister Michelle who was getting a bus to astorga airport and flying back so they said their sad goodbyes. Her sister lives in the UK but Dominique lives in Australia.

We walked together and the misty start soon burned off and the views today were great. A hilly day as always on this Camino but such good views and walking and talking with Dominique passed the time and although we had a late start being fuelled and correctly hydrated today made all the difference. We soon made the main town Tineo, just under halfway on today’s route and Dominique went in search of a super market so we split up. But we did find Karen a shell in the shop there so she is finally a true pilgrim and got her first blister so she is defo in the club now. Thankfully it was only a small one on her toe so a bit of needle and thread later that was sorted.

We continued on to a pretty long climb made somewhat nicer by the views and a long steep downhill section a real toe slider if your boots weren’t laced properly. The map made today look fairly easy but it was a long day again we eventually walked the last 5k on open roads in the sun so was tricky but feeling much better today having more food and fluids being back to normal. So a better performance today. The albergue tonight has a restaurant and super market so we’re gearing up as tomorrow is one of the big mountains and there are no services for a large part of the 30k. But a nice clean albergue 20 euro for bed and the pilgrim menu meal.
