Day 8 – O Cadavo – Lugo – 30k

Now the mountains are over the run into Lugo looked a simple one. We still got up at 5.30 am to be on the Camino for 6 to walk in the dark and cooler mornings. Leaving the albergue was a bit more tricky due to them having automatic lights in the bathroom and corridor. We always try to leave in silence and with minimal use of light to let the other pilgrims sleep but it was much harder when lights would flood the room when you open any door.

A little hill to start leaving O Cadavo but nothing as bad as previous hills. Then lots of up and down but once again limited services today. But lots of mountain paths, Forrest roads and walking through little villages and hamlets. We soon reached Castroverde and our first coffee stop was a nice cafe but no food tho had a nice appricot juice and they were playing British music. So we had to eat some snacks we had. Really no big views today really and quite a boring stretch of road really.

Weather was cloudy and some drizzle today but nothing too wet. We eventually got to Lugo and as always a hill to finish. We always had in mind to book a hotel as a treat in Lugo so we have a 4 star hotel tonight and we’re getting up later tomorrow as we only have a 20 km day but could go another 5k if we make good time too. Lugo is at the 100km mark so lots of Disneygrinos as I call them maybe be joining the Camino tomorrow on package trips. Also once we get to Melida we join the Frances Camino too so it will get very busy. But we should be done on Thursday and all the hotels in Santiago booked so 4 days to go!

Lugo is a bit of a disappointment because it’s Sunday and everything is closed, but the buildings are very nice and the cathedral is a big one but alas no stamp.
