Day 9 – Lugo to Ferreria – 27k

After a cracking night in Lugo in our hotel,we woke up before our alarm, so used to getting up at half 5. So got up and was on the Camino for 8 am. Lugo was still half closed and we made our way out of town. Views from our hotel room balcony this morning:

We soon noticed the huge influx or new faces the Disneygrinos were out in force. Tiny back packs or half empty packs. They have completely changed the mood on Camino and our primitivo family are not Impressed. Look if your infirm or have medical reasons ok fine walk the last 100km but this isn’t the case most of these people are very able. Most proper pilgrims think they should have a different Compostela certificate it cheapens the ones earned the hard way. I get it you don’t have much time to do the frances, well do one of the shorter camino’s the Portuguese or the primitivo. We made swift progress and kicked out 10k by 10 am. Lots of road walking today with the odd Forrest path. Really not challenging terrain tho. By 12.30 we arrived at San Rameo and had lunch they had a much better lunch options than the rest. They had 3 flavours of empananda’s so I had a bit of one with bacon and chorizo. As well as a pasta salad that was like a Russian salad we sometimes have as a starter, pasta, egg, tuna, mayo, cheese, ham and olives. Was very tasty.

We were originally planning to stay at San Rameo but as we reached it early we push on the extra 7km to Ferreira where there was more accomodation and bars. I also watched a disneygrino get in a taxi before we left. Sure the old guy may have been struggling but we all struggle in parts but you keep going. That’s the thing that’s missing from a disneygrinos they have no grit or determination to get it done. It’s already bad enough a lot of them have huge suitcases moved to their booked accomodation everyday. Pilgrimage is supposed to be hard, it’s supposed to hurt. The disneygrino’s have pre-booked everything so when we arrived at Ferreira we called to the albergue Dominique is staying at but they are full so had to try get in one of the few a bit further back from the main town. But there is a bar and when we got in there was one bed left in the main bunks or we could have 2 beds in a 3 bed private room so we took that. So we may find out later who our third guess is but it will be a disneygrino so we are making them go up the bunk.We not have only 20km to Melida which is where the French Camino joins so the bed rush will get a lot worse from there on. We have booked our albergue tomorrow night already have been left no choice even tho I hate booking.
