Day 1 - Santiago to A Pen and Piaxe - 29k

Getting up to leave a hotel at 6 am leaving your friends behind is brutal but a mission is a mission. This is my way for a reason.

I Barely saw anyone leaving the city, think other than bus tourists I have seen 6 walking pilgrims all day. The path was largely quiet roads or single path and a lot through forests. So it's been a lovely day. Yesterday was all kinds of hot so I assumed it would be 30 degrees again today so wanted to walk early as usual but it being a longer day today I was preparing for the heat. I managed to get a coffee and pan au chocolate around 7k in. And whilst there are not lots of options I still found stuff at good break times open today.

By 10 it was super hot tho and the last 3 hours was hot but manageable with walking among the trees and shade breaks. So all in all a good quiet day. I arrived at the albergue at 1 pm and they have a bar/cafe so at least I get a pilgrims menu later.

So far only one other American pilgrim staying here. At least my big day today leaves me with less to do tomorrow or maybe I walk on a bit. Who knows. It's supposed to be 4 degrees cooler tomorrow but back past 30 on my last day. So may try to push more tomorrow.
