So last night sleep was great and being able to wake up and have a shower this morning was really nice! The hotel didn’t have a 24 hour reception so I knew I would most likely have to wait until half 7 to check out as I soon discovered I assumed when in I checked in they took the money for the room but turns out they hadn’t so good that I checked as to not sleep and dash!
The first 10k out of Burgos was again most city and industrial and it was not particularly nice to look at or fun to walk through in comparison to the rest of the camino! After 10k I stopped for a coffee and to rest my feet!! Here I met Claire actually a fellow welshie who has lived in London the last 10 years. She is an aspiring actress who actually has been working in event management! It was nice to talk in English and have a chat!
By the next village she has stopping but I was determined to get to my 20k destination before 1! By camino standards starting at 8 is very late and finding beds is tricky if you plan on doing any longer distances!
The terrain now is pretty much flat and open apart from a few bumps, this is the start of the Meseta this is very well known and is often referred to as a desert like environment, very hot and low on water points. This should be less of an issue with me due to my camelbak but I plan on trying to get some longer k’s done to get it over with quickly!
Many people actually get on a bus and skip this part such is its bad reputation!
I reached Hornillos del camino and found a tiny albergue that sleeps at best 16 people that’s a converted family home! The husband and wife are very kind and there will be a communal meal and breakfast wifi with refreshments for just shy of 20 euro! I have already had a coke and melon and its nice to get this kind of hospitality! My fave part of this place is they have a proper sofa! It’s sooo comfy and have been sitting on hard chairs or the floor while hanging out for most of the camino!
Only a few pictures today due to the landscape not being particularly that spectacular!
