Day 13 Itero de la Vega to Carrion de Los Condes

Left the albergue at half 4 this morning knowing I would be planning to go 37k.

I enjoy walking in the darkness but today I came across a new challenge which turned out to be a real life version of a computer game. So I was walking headphone in my lugs and then splat I’m covered in water! I look across to find a farmers water sprinklers actually cover the path I’m walking on so I quickly move on and then have to play a start stop game to avoid the water sprinklers for about 500m it was fun but not how I wanted to wake up.

I made good progress and had covered close to 10k when I bumped into Kai a German man who spoke very good English we had breakfast and a coffee and then walked together. The time really file while your chatting and putting the world to rights while we discussed our favourite top gear episode!

The path was mainly alongside a main road for 25k today so not much scenery for most of the day!

I have decided i keep stressing about distance and averages and trying to arrive early so I can go to finestre but iv decided to chill out and enjoy my experience and not rush so the new aim is 30k a day which will still get me in early if I want to do more at the time I can but now not rushing it! My planned longer days are also harder for finding beds too which will get worse closer to Santiago!

Today also marks the halfway part with 406km to go, so hitting halfway on day 13 of a possible 27 day walk is pretty encouraging my legs are still feeling good even if my feet are not but they normally only complain after 30k!

Tonight I’m staying in an albergue run by nuns I hear they sing for us and there a communal meal so will have to see how that goes! But all very good and happy!
