Day 15 Terradillos de Los Templarios to Leon

So last night my sleep was awful due to shooting pains in my left foot and I have been ignoring my right knee pain for a few days but that mixed with the pain from my blisters and the fact that my heel blisters aren’t going anywhere due to my trainers obviously pinching on ascents and descents which happens to be all the time on the camino! The grip on the base is pretty much done and currently the foam base just lets my feet feel every stone. Generally I’m banged up and not in a good way physically. I have tried to just get on with it but today I decided I would do what I had to to finish!

I got up at 7 ish the albergue was deserted by then and made my way to sahagun it was 13k of pretty solid agony. Here I knew I could make the vital decisions based on transport as it was a bigger town. After arriving I found a train going to Leon at 12.47 so waited it out. Spain is still very old fashioned about Sundays hardly anything works, runs or was open. Leon by this point was 60k away so two days walking would be saved by my 22 minute train.

As iv previously discussed my time schedule has meant that I have no time for days off so the only thing I could do is travel ahead rest up for the 2 days and then get back on the camino hopefully feeling better and after tomorrow hopefully with a new pair of trainers/walking shoes. I have decided although in the cross trail running trainers try run out after 6 weeks due to wear in the heal salomon’s were like slippers for me and I had no blisters when using them so plan to try and pick up a pair of salomon ultra’s gtx shoes as a mix between my boots and the trainers I had and Kai on the camino wears them and swears by them.

So I got into Leon and quickly found the cathedral and my hotel again as planned I got myself a nice hotel to relax in, it has a spa so I will spend sometime in there!

After a proper shower I went in search of supplies and found leon is in a very bad way the recession has hit it very hard with boarded up shops everywhere and it being a Sunday the rest of them closed apart from bars and a few restaurants. I had heard Leon’s cathedral although very grand in stature had a lot less to see than Burgos and wow they were right was in and out within 20 mins Burgos had taken nearly 2 hours.

So found supplies and returned to my hotel to rest up. I’m very much divided over the choice to rest up I know it’s for the best and with the mountains coming up to not have rested would have inevitably meant I did worse damage and potential end to walking at all. But I can’t help feeling I cheated and I know it’s very common place for people on deadlines or injured people to skip sections but regardless I’m feeling uneasy about it although most of the people I discussed it with told me to rest and at least I can then continue.
