Day 19 Rabanal del Camino to Ponferrada

So today was a 6 start with a solemn walk up to the Cruz de Ferro. Stones in pocket and other things on my mind. However I bumped into Rosario one if the Italians from my first day in Roncesvaux. He is a web designer and owns his own company and his English is good so we can chat no problem. We started walking together in then loosest terms, he is carrying an injury from his blisters so sometimes I walk on but he always catches up when I stop.

He reached the cross just after sunrise and I placed my stones and sat quietly thinking over the reasons for my stones and what I would like to leave behind. We were here a while and it’s the first time most other pilgrims all had fairly serious faces. But soon we hit the road and i got talking to a couple from Australia who were on the same pace level as me. As we were 1400m up it was time to head down. Descending is very tricky over loose and rough ground and was slow going but chatting soon passed the time and eventually we reached the bottom into Molinaseca a very beautiful quaint town with a nice river and the Aussie couple decided to call it a day. That would have been good but myself and Rosario had the plan to go further and reach the large town/city of Ponferrada. After our long day we decided as we were in a large town to get a hotel with a twin room and for only 24 euro each a bargain indeed.

So we are resting up but will go view the castle here shortly and I will update the blog with pics later off the castle.
