Day 20 Ponferrada to Vega de Valcarce

So we kicked off the day with breakfast in the hotel. We had a rough plan to try and get as close to the mountains as possible ready for our last mountain tomorrow.

As it is again walking on of cities on pavements and next to roads, we assumed this would get better but after a lot of sharp up and downhills the easy flat day we had in mind was a myth. However fuelled with breakfast we powered on making very good time and soon had 15k done. Powered by Aquarius a lemon non carbonated water drink from coca cola over here which is possibly the most thirst quenching amber nectar ever tasted after a good walk.

We were making good time and the legs and feet were playing ball we soon found ourselves past the 30k mark and although a bit aching and tired powered on made a lot harder with the heat and the fact the path was pretty much next to the main road for the last 15k. Although a but dead on our feet after 10 hours on the go we hit our 42k destination. Meaning we only need to do 32k tomorrow granted up and down a 800m mountain but alas it should be easier to approach and complete leaving mainly small up and downs and mainly flat ground to Santiago.

I will post the map for tomorrow, am still walking with Rosario and we seem to bounce off each other well and have similar time frames and goals although he needs to be there a day before me I think we can spur each other on to get to Santiago and maybe even with enough time to relax for a day before heading back home!

Today was defiantly a long tough day but its over and now only 170km to Santiago and considering I have a week to do that should be all good!

I also updated yesterday’s post with more pictures of the Templar castle and Ponferrada so you may want to go have a look.
